Martha Pt. 2 and M-Joes

On Thursday, we got the chance to see Martha for a second time, so we went back to the studio again at 1:15... On the Martha show, each day in January she introduces a "Martha Must-Have" that the whole audience gets. That's why we got so many things on the previous taping. Unfortunately, the second show will actually air on February 10, so we didn't get any cool gifts the second time. (Although they handed out left over Quaker products and I got another can of oats...yum!) However, our seats were a lot closer...See that windowed room on the left? Those women in pink are the ones who actually make all of the food that Martha takes credit for....
It was also cool to see how in the hour between tapings, the studio was completely transformed into a Valentine's-themed studio...Our show was a particularly exciting show. The last guest was a nature enthusiast who brought some exotic birds to talk about (there was a toucan, a macaw, and a hawk). There was also a West African crane. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to have the crane fly from the back of the studio audience to the front of the stage. The bird flew down without incident, but when the bird flew back up to the back of the studio, he decided he'd rather land on this old woman's head. So this random audience member has this bird that's more than 3 feet tall with a wingspan of almost 6 feet on her head. The woman didn't get hurt and handled it surprisingly well. The show quickly went to a commercial and the crew proceeded to apologize profusely and shower her with gifts like, "Please don't sue us." Martha, strangely, never even apologized. The show then wrapped up and Martha came out for a Q&A with the audience...Also, just FYI, when Martha said the word "herbal," she pronounced the h. And Martha knows best. Anyway, on Saturday we took the train to Columbus Circle to use our lululemon gift certificates from the first show...
Everything is pretty expensive in the store, but it's cool because there is no sales tax on clothing in New York City. I bought a reversible jacket...Pat bought a sweatshirt...Today we went to Empanada Joe's for lunch. It's a fast food chain restauraunt that serves all sorts of empanadas...I got a pulled-pork empanada and a bacon and egg empanada...
They have some pretty weird, "healthy" sides. I got spicy potato salad and black bean salad...
Over all, the food was good, but it's a little overpriced. But it's not like you wouldn't expect that here.

Did the bird hurt that poor lady? You guys are doing so many fun things it makes me jealous. Think of us in Chicago. Love Mom
